St Anthony Catholic Church on Mitchell Street was founded in 1872 as a mission church serving the spiritual needs of recently arrived German immigrants. Since then, the vigil lamp in our beautiful church has reminded thousands of Christ's Real Presence in the heart of the Near Southside.
Like any other Catholic parish, St Anthony exists to bring people to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God (Eph. 3: 19).
To achieve this goal, St Anthony Church offers the sacraments of the Church, popular missions, Faith formation courses, and works of charity. Our parish school is the largest Catholic grammar school in the United States.
